TN190307 SmartShot Is Accurate At  Long Ranges
The SmartShot ballistic app developed by ProjectileScience Inc. accurately models long range trajectories of all VLD bullets we have tested from Mach 3 out to extreme long ranges where the Mach number has dropped to 0.6. Trajectories computed with five of the most well respected ballistics apps were compared to our actual trajectories for several VLD bullets from a 115 gn 6mm to a 364 gn 375 caliber. All ballistic apps we tested were accurate in most of the supersonic regime but none match our actual measured trajectories in the subsonic regime. The differences are hundreds of inches as shown in the Path Difference graph on page 4. We believe that SmartShot works in both the supersonic and the subsonic regimes because the math model is better than the traditional Bashforth/Ingalls/Sacci model although there may be other reasons. The only significant operational difference users will notice between SmartShot and traditional ballistic apps is SmartShot replaces ballistic coefficients, form factors and drag functions with a new, and we think better, drag metric, velocity retention. This paper describes the characteristics of SmartShot and velocity retention.

TN200823 Using SmartShot Offline
SmartShot uses htm files so that the app can be opened on any browser without to need for any spreadsheet software. Htm files are managed differently than Microsoft or other “normal” files. Consequently using SmartShot offline and building a file structure in which to save off-line version is a bit different than normal file manipulation with a file manager. This Tech Note shows how.

TN170106 Sensitivity Analysis
This sensitivity analysis displays point of impact errors in minutes of angle at ranges from 500 yd to 2000 yd resulting from arbitrarily selected errors in ten input variables as follows: Range, 10 yds; Wind, 1 mph; Slope, 2°; Muzzle Velocity, 10 fps; Sight Height, 0.10 inch; Velocity Retention, 0.5 ft; Zero Range, 5 yd; Air Temperature, 5 F; Relative Humidity, 10%; Local Air Pressure, 0.1 inhg. Details of the assumptions, PoI errors and calculations are in the TN. SmartShot is ideal for error analysis because the effect of changes can be made to any input variable can be viewed instantly with never the need to change to a different screen – because there is only one screen.
